music // channel tres “CACTUS WATER”

I was recently listening to the One Song podcast w/guest Jimmy Jam , and it had me thinking about my upbringing in Minneapolis in the 80’s and 90’s and my relationship to funk and pop. I have been trying to sort out if that music and time were truly that amazing and magical, or if it was simply enhanced by being young and finding my own identity through music. Not that those two things are mutually exclusive - but I just wonder if I grew up elsewhere I would have also been so inspired and connected to whatever music was being produced in my general vicinity.

I am not saying that Channel Tres’ new single “Cactus Water” sounds like Flyte Tyme, but it does have 43 year old me feeling excited in a way that is reminiscent of my enthusiasm 30+ years ago. Again, this is not some throwback jam - to the contary - it feels fresh and original. Just go listen! I’m ready to get on the bass.
